Well, seems like everybody is trying to bring their usual old-selves via their efforts.
The latest artist to jump on that boat is – Kamaljit Singh Jhooti aka “Jay Sean“. I have been a long time admirer of this dude, right since he was barely global, doing underground beatboxing/rap battles and performances around Northwest part of London.
His deep roots to India, is another reason why I sort of have this soft spot for his talents. But, that doesn’t mean he ain’t got it? I mean, if you go and check out his early stuff from the 2002-2007, you will realize what I am talking about in here.
However, his sudden rise after Cash Money offered him a record deal in 2009, is somewhat deceptive. It didn’t allow him to go back to his R&B roots. Rather, he achieved enormous success with back to back straight POP bangers.
Apparently, with his latest album “Neon” is already in the works, and in the final stages before it hits your favourite retailer worldwide on 25th of next Month. Meanwhile, you can listen to this track, which is where Jay is trying to go back to his R&B, slow Jam roots. I have no info on the producer yet? But, Maybach Music Group’s own Rozay, makes a splashing appearance on the track.
I am personally liking this track for the sole reason that he’s trying to go back to his original roots. However, not too impressed with the lyrical work. I mean, this be the gazillionth time, he’s talking/singing about “High, down” and related metaphors. He’s better than that. Regardless, the track has a pretty smooth vibe flowing.
Decide for you. I found a soundcloud stream for ya’ll’s listening pleasure.
