WEEKEND NINJA UPDATES : MAJOR LAZER’S FREE THE UNIVERSE, N.O.R.E’S STUDENT OF THE GAME AND HOVA’S OPEN LETTER!

There’s a lot happening in the Music world, and being the only guy operating/writing on this blog has it’s own disadvantages or cons. Regardless, I try to cover each and every possible “good music” source or element, which is available to me for you guys.

Which brings me to, a couple of updates from this week and upcoming album releases. First in the series of my weekly Ninja Updates is DJ DIPLO’S not so underrated music side project, which goes by the moniker of “Major Lazer“, which also includes Walshy of “Black Chiney” and Jillionaire. They are the production team to blame for a list of tracks on Snoop’s latest reggae project titled “Reincarnated“.

Also, they are currently aiming for an April the 16th release to the second studio effort title “Free the Universe“, which is a definitely example on the range of sounds and genre this crew can blend their sounds in. From reggae to electronic, to dubstep. I mean, this album’s got everything. I personally am hooked to this amazing “What so Not” remix, which is available on the album tracklist titled “get free” featuring Amber of Dirty Projectors. And of course Flux Pavilion assisted “Jah No Partial“, which breaks all the cross-over barriers with a touch of electronic/dubstep with reggae. Another track which I am really looking forward to is “Bubble Butt”, where Lazer recruited Tyga, Bruno Mars and Mystic on/for the guest duties.  The album features an outrageous guest list over all  – Wyclef Jean, Shaggy, Ezra of Vampire Weekend, Santigold, Leftside, GTA, Laidback Luke, Elephant Man and a many more.

I’ve managed to spot a couple of official streams off my favourite tracks from the album, already. Check them out, down below. Also, don’t forget to support the cause by buying the album here.

I also featured a track from N.O.R.E’s upcoming album “Student of the Game“, which is going to hit all the major stores on April the 16th. The album is shaping up to be a solid comeback from our very own East Coast start “N.O.R.E aka P.A.P.I”.  It boasts a colossal guest list in terms of quality, which includes the likes of – Pharrell, Scarface, Pete Rock, Lil Wayne, Havoc, Jeremih, Large Professor, Swizz Beatz, Busta Rhymes, Pusha T, 2 Chainz, French Montana and a many more.

I just heard a new track titled “Faces of Death“, which features French, Swizzie, Raekwon and Busta Rhymes on the guest duties. Jahlil Beats on the track, and it’s quite a stunner!  I found an unofficial stream, down below for your listening pleasure. Don’t forget to cop the album, once it’s out on 16th.

Lastly, there have been some controversies involving one of the biggest hip-hop artist of all time, wait for it…. HOVA! A couple of politicians had something to say on his and beyonce’s vacation trip to Havana, Cuba. Also, a controversy involving his basketball team. Jay took to the mic, with assistance from industry giants Swizzie and Timbo, and the result “Open Letter“.

Jay took a direct snipe against the politicians criticizing their trip to havana with – “They wanna give me jail time and a fine — Fine, let me commit a real crime,” he says, referencing conservative politician’s efforts to investigate his trip to Cuba. “Obama said, ‘Chill you’re going to get me impeached’ / You don’t need this sh-t anyway, chill with me on the beach.”

You’ve got to respect such an Artist who is channelling his thoughts and anger using Music as a medium, a prime weapon to encourage freedom of speech and freedom to be.  Apparently, Jay’s looking to start a new sports agency by financing the project after unloading his stake in Brooklyn Nets –

“I woulda moved the Nets to Brooklyn for free
Except I made millions off you f–king dweebs
I still own the building, I’m still keeping my seats
You buy that bullsh-t, you better keep your receipts.”

Well, diss tracks are nothing new to the rap game. But, this is something different. This is a movement, and I guess it’s striking all the right chords. I wish them both well and let’s hope, this controversy gets resolved, before it catches some real fire again.

Meanwhile, I got the official stream to the joint via RocNation’s official soundcloud!
